THE 2013 DAVAO EXECUTIVE AND EMPLOYEE RAPID CHESS TOURNEY AND THE FRIED LIVER ATTACK

I had the occasion to once again renew chess bonds and pit

skills against fellow executives and a sprinkling of

employees in the First Davao Executive and Employee Rapid

Chess Tournament held last October 13, 2013 at the NCCC

Mall Food Cove Hall, Matina, Davao City. The event was a

one day 5 rounds swiss system ably organized by my good

friend and now International Arbiter James Infiesto.

Seeded 9th in a field of 26 players, I had a good run

winning 4 consecutive games after losing my 1st round

assignment. I ended up tied with Ramil Langamon of Julie's

Bakeshop also with 4 points but was relegated to 4th place

due to a lower tie-break. The event was won by Perkins

Bayron of Bayron's Photoshop who edged fellow 4.5 scorer

businessman Rodrigo Catayas who settled for runner-up honors

due to a lower tie- break.I scored 2 wins using the Fried

Liver Attack which was quite surprising to me as I had never

used this line in previous tournament play.

Below is my 5th round game against Reynaldo De Guzman.

The Fried Liver Attack, also known as the Fegatello Attack, is named for an Italian idiom "dead as fried liver " and dates back at least to the early 17th century, with the first known game recorded in Rome in 1610 between Guilio Cesare Polerio and Domenico.
